A medical device company developing innovative catheter ablation solutions for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias

About us

OUR Mission

To set a new standard in catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias by empowering electrophysiologists with smart ablation catheters using advanced ultrasound visualization technology to ensure precise, first-time-right treatments for every eligible patient, and ultimately improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

The problem

Picture3_edited.png

Atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia are the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmias, with over 5 million new cases diagnosed annually. Catheter-based ablation has emerged as a well-established curative treatment, restoring natural heart rhythm by electrically isolating specific regions of the heart..

However, one of the primary challenges faced by electrophysiologists is how to deliver exactly the right amount of therapy for each individual patient’s heart, to ensure good therapy outcomes with minimal risk of complications and side effects. With today’s catheters, clinicians are effectively “operating in the blind”, as they cannot see the heart tissue that they are treating, nor can they see the impact of the therapy delivery on the tissue. This lack of real-time information can lead to overtreatment, which increases the risk of complications and may unnecessarily reduce the patient’s heart function. Also, it frequently leads to under-treatment, resulting in incomplete isolation and often leading to recurrence of the arrhythmia. As a result, more than 20% of patients require a repeat procedure within a year to achieve symptom relief.

OUR SOLUTION

Sonic Precision is developing an innovative dual energy source (RF and PFA) ablation catheter with embedded ultrasound sensors in the tip. This cutting-edge technology provides real-time information on tissue properties like thickness of the myocardial wall and monitors catheter contact and stability during cardiac arrhythmia treatments, to enhance procedure safety and ablation quality. With ultrasound visualization a tailored approach becomes possible allowing for more precise treatment and improved clinical outcomes.

The catheter tip is equipped with four nearfield ultrasound sensors, enabling it to sense in four different orientations. Advanced algorithms can visualize cardiac structures, identify the myocardial wall and tissue characteristics, asses tissue contact and monitor lesion formation. The catheter connects to a generator capable of delivering both radiofrequency ablation and pulsed field ablation, aligning with the latest trends in cardiac ablation technology.
